I’ve always hated the phrase “I just don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.”
It means you have an idea that will move a project or the organization forward, but you may not share it because you’re worried someone will be upset that you crossed some (imaginary) line.
My response is always the same: You can’t step on my toes. And if you don’t want your toes stepped on, wear steel-tipped boots.
Whenever people focus more on protecting their territory than on improving the outcome, the company is destined to fail. That kind of selfishness destroys businesses over time.
